And more than likely the rear drive train needs to be replaced just need to know how much to fix this, ballpark.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>RESPONSE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>$1600 &#8211; Rebuilt Rear end installed (Rear Axle Assembly)<\/p>\n<p>*Jasper Engines and <a href=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/transmission-troubleshooting.html\">Transmissions <\/a>also re-manufacturer rear ends. I mention this because they have one of the best warranties out there. They will cover your part and <strong>LABOR<\/strong> cost should anything occur.\u00a0 Not to mention they have Installers all over the country.<\/p>\n<h3>Rear Axle\u00a0 Assembly Replacement<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Raise and support the front end on jackstands.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the wheels.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the skid plate.<\/li>\n<li>Drain the carrier.<\/li>\n<li>Matchmark and remove the front driveshaft.<\/li>\n<li>Disconnect the right <span class=\"search_highlight\">axle<\/span> shaft at the tube flange.<\/li>\n<li>Disconnect the left <span class=\"search_highlight\">axle<\/span> shaft at the carrier flange.<\/li>\n<li>Wire both <span class=\"search_highlight\">axle<\/span> shafts out of the way.<\/li>\n<li>Unplug the connectors at the indicator switch and actuator.<\/li>\n<li>Disconnect the carrier vent hose.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the <span class=\"search_highlight\">axle<\/span> tube-to-frame bolts, washers and nuts.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the lower carrier mounting bolt.<\/li>\n<li>Disconnect the right side inner tie rod end at the relay rod.<\/li>\n<li>Depending on the model, it may be necessary to remove the engine oil filter.<\/li>\n<li>Support the carrier on a floor jack<\/li>\n<li>Remove the upper carrier mounting bolt.<\/li>\n<li>Lower the carrier assembly from the truck.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>To install:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Raise the carrier into position.<\/li>\n<li>Install the upper carrier mounting bolt, washers and nut. Then, install the lower carrier mounting bolt, washers and nut. Tighten the bolts to 80 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).<\/li>\n<li>Remove the jack.<\/li>\n<li>Install the oil filter.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the tie rod end. Tighten the nut to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).<\/li>\n<li>Install the <span class=\"search_highlight\">axle<\/span> tube-to-frame bolts, washers and nuts. Tighten the nuts to 75 ft. lbs. (100 Nm) for 15 and 25 series; 107 ft. lbs. (145 Nm) for 35 series.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the vent hose.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the wiring.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the <span class=\"search_highlight\">axle<\/span> shafts at the flanges. Tighten the bolts to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).<\/li>\n<li>Connect the driveshaft. Tighten the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).<\/li>\n<li>Fill the carrier with gear oil.<\/li>\n<li>Install the wheels.<\/li>\n<li>Add any engine oil lost when the filter was removed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The rear axle assembly disintegrated on my 97 4wd suburban lt.
