If it gets something caught, the light will come on as it can not control the butterfly.<\/p>\n<h1>TSB 18-016-05<\/h1>\n<h3>Throttle Body Coking<\/h3>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Date:<\/span><\/b> April 12, 2005<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: xx-small;\">Models:<\/span><\/b> 2004 (DR) Ram Truck<\/p>\n<p>2004 (DR) Ram Truck<br \/>\n2004 (HB) Durango<\/p>\n<p>NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine (sales code EZA).<\/p>\n<p>NOTE: This condition is rarely experienced on vehicles with less than 50,000 miles.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: xx-small;\">Overview:<\/span><\/b><br \/>\nThis bulletin involves cleaning the throttle body.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: xx-small;\">Symptom\/Condition:<\/span><\/b><br \/>\nThe vehicle operator may describe MIL illumination.<br \/>\nThe technician may find one or more of the following DTC\u2019s:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>P2174 &#8211; Low Airflow\/Restriction Detected (Instant Accumulation)<\/li>\n<li>P2175 &#8211; Low Airflow\/Restriction Detected (Slow Accumulation)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: xx-small;\">Diagnosis:<\/span><\/b><br \/>\nUsing a Scan Tool (DRBIII or StarSCANT) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures, verify<br \/>\nall engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs are present, other than those listed<br \/>\nabove, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with<br \/>\nthis bulletin.<\/p>\n<p>Inspect the air induction system including the air filter element, resonator, air induction hoses<br \/>\nand throttle body, for restriction and\/or large accumulations of silty deposits on air flow<br \/>\nsurfaces.<\/p>\n<p>If accumulation of silty deposits are present in the throttle body and \/or behind the throttle<br \/>\nplate, perform the appropriate Repair Procedure.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: xx-small;\">Parts Required: <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" width=\"480\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"4\" bgcolor=\"#FFFFFF\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Qty.<\/b><\/td>\n<td><b>Part No.<\/b><\/td>\n<td><b>Description<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>1<\/td>\n<td>04897150AB or 04897151AB<\/td>\n<td>Brake Parts Cleaner<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>AR<\/td>\n<td>NPN<\/td>\n<td>Clean Soft Shop Towel<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: xx-small;\">Repair Procedure:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"4\" bgcolor=\"#FFFFFF\">\n<tbody>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td nowrap=\"nowrap\">1.<\/td>\n<td>Remove the throttle body from the intake manifold. Refer to the service information<br \/>\navailable in TechCONNECT or the Ram Truck service manual (publication no.<br \/>\n81-370-04059), Section 14 Fuel Injection, Throttle Body, Removal, page 14-36.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td colspan=\"2\">CAUTION: Use only Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner, p\/n 04897150AB or 04897151AB, as<br \/>\nthe use of other cleaners may damage components of the throttle body.<br \/>\nUse this cleaner only in a well ventilated area. Do not let this cleaner come<br \/>\nin contact with the skin. Rubber or butyl gloves are recommended. Wash<br \/>\nthoroughly after use. Avoid eye contact. Avoid ingesting.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td>2.<\/td>\n<td>While holding the throttle open, spray the throttle body bore with Mopar Brake Parts<br \/>\nCleaner, p\/n 04897150AB or 04897151AB. Spray the entire throttle body bore and the<br \/>\nmanifold side of the throttle plate.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td>3.<\/td>\n<td>Use a soft cloth to help break loose deposits to clean the throttle body bore and throttle<br \/>\nplate. While holding the throttle open, clean both the top and bottom of the throttle body<br \/>\nbore. Also clean the manifold side and edges of the throttle plate.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td colspan=\"2\">NOTE: Take due care not to scratch, bend, or dent throttle plate and\/or throttle body<br \/>\nbore.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td colspan=\"2\">NOTE: It is important this cleaning operation be performed thoroughly and completely.<br \/>\nThe edge of the throttle plate and the portion of the throttle body bore that is in<br \/>\nthe closest proximity to the closed throttle plate is the most critical area where<br \/>\nthe cleaning should be concentrated. This area must be free of all deposits<br \/>\nwhen the cleaning is completed.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td>4.<\/td>\n<td>Spray the throttle body with, Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner, p\/n 04897150AB or<br \/>\n04897151AB, and then blow dry with compressed shop air. Inspect for any foreign<br \/>\nmaterial which may have been left behind during the cleaning process.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td colspan=\"2\">CAUTION: Do not apply shop air pressure directly into the throttle shaft and throttle<br \/>\nbody housing holes.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td>5.<\/td>\n<td>Open and close the throttle plate on the throttle body to verify that there is no increased<br \/>\neffort when moving from the closed position. If the condition is corrected, proceed to the<br \/>\nnext step. If the increased effort still exists, then some other condition exists with the<br \/>\nthrottle body and further diagnosis and repair will be necessary and will not be covered<br \/>\nby this repair procedure.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td>6.<\/td>\n<td>Install the throttle body on the intake manifold.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td>7.<\/td>\n<td>Open and close the throttle to verify that there is no increased effort when moving from<br \/>\nthe closed throttle position. If the condition is corrected, proceed to the next step.
