The downstream <a href=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/ho2s-heated-oxygen-sensor.html\">O2 Sensors<\/a> are located after the catalytic converter.<\/p>\n<h2>EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) SYSTEM DESCRIPTION<\/h2>\n<div><span class=\"ptxt\">The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (<span class=\"search_highlight\">EGR<\/span>) system lowers the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission level. When the air\/fuel mixture combustion temperature is high, a large quantity of nitrogen oxides (NOx) is generated in the combustion chamber. Therefore, this system recirculates part of emission gas from the exhaust port of the cylinder head to the combustion chamber through the intake manifold to decrease the air\/fuel mixture combustion temperature, resulting in reduction of NOx.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"ptxt\">The <span class=\"search_highlight\">EGR<\/span> flow rate is controlled by the <span class=\"search_highlight\">EGR<\/span> valve so as not to dffect the driveability.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"title-st2\">OPERATION<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"ptxt\">When the engine coolant temperature is low, the engine is at idle or when a wide open throttle operation is performed, the <span class=\"search_highlight\">EGR<\/span> valve is kept closed, allowing no <span class=\"search_highlight\">EGR<\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"ptxt\">In normal vehicle operation, after the engine has warmed up, the <span class=\"search_highlight\">EGR<\/span> valve is opened to carry out <span class=\"search_highlight\">EGR<\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"ptxt\">In addition, the engine control module monitors the <span class=\"search_highlight\">EGR<\/span> system and illuminates the check engine\/malfunction indicator lamp to let the driver know that there is a malfunction.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-34693\" src=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/egr.gif\" alt=\"EGR 2004 Hyundai XG350\" width=\"491\" height=\"349\" \/><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the location of EGR valve and location of down stream o2 sensors.
