(See <a href=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/car-engine-sensors.html\">Engine Sensors<\/a>). The Crankshaft position sensor location is behind the harmonic balancer in the timing chain cover at the bottom. As for gas in the oil, look for a foiled spark plug or a sticking fuel injector that may be leaking.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35424 size-full\" src=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/1995-gmc-jimmy-crank-position-sensor.gif\" alt=\"crankshaft position sensor location 1995 GMC Jimmy\" width=\"320\" height=\"296\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Crankshaft Position Sensor Location and Replacement 1995 GMC Jimmy<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Removal Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remove the electrical connector.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the sensor hold down bolt.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the sensor from the timing cover.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Important<\/h3>\n<div>\u00a0When installing or removing a crankshaft position sensor (CKP) make sure the sensor is fully seated and held stationary in the front cover before torquing the hold down bolt into the front cover. A sensor which is not seated may result in erratic operation and lead to the setting of false codes.<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Inspect the sensor 0-ring for wear, cracks or leakage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Replace if necessary. Lube the new o-ring with clean engine oil before installing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Installation Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Important<\/h3>\n<div>\u00a0Make certain that the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor mounting surfaces are clean and free of burrs before installing the CKP sensor.<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Install the sensor into the timing cover.<\/li>\n<li>Install the sensor hold down bolt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Tighten<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Tighten the hold down bolt to 8\u00a0N\u00b7m (71\u00a0lb\u00a0in).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caution!<\/strong><b>\u00a0<\/b>Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener.
