Break the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel loose from the shaft.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel puller.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> shaft nut.<\/li>\n<li>For 2.5L engines, remove the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel vibration diameter.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel from the vehicle.<b>To install:<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Align the matchmarks on the wheel hub and shaft and install the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel.<\/li>\n<li>For 2.5L engines, install the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel vibration damper.<\/li>\n<li>Tighten the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel retaining nut to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm). Install the retainer<\/li>\n<li>Attach the horn electrical lead.<\/li>\n<li>Install the horn pad and\/or any controls located on the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the negative battery cable.<\/li>\n<li>If removed, install the air cleaner assembly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How to remove steering wheel with Air Bags<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"w\">WARNING\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nOn vehicles with air bags, disable the SIR system. The vehicles wheels must be in the straight ahead position and the key must be in the LOCK position when removing or installing the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> column. Failure to do so may cause the SIR coil assembly to become uncentered and may result in otherwise unneeded SIR repairs.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Disconnect the negative battery cable.<\/li>\n<li>Properly disable the SIR system, as outlined in Section 6 of this manual.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the ignition is in the <b>\u00a0OFF<\/b>\u00a0position.<span class=\"c\">\u00a0CAUTION\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nWhen carrying a live air bag, make sure the bag and trim cover are pointed away from the body. In the unlikely event of an accidental deployment, the bag will then deploy with minimal chance of injury. In addition, when placing a live air bag on a bench or other surface. always face the bag and the trim cover up, away from the surface. This will reduce the chance of personal injury if it is accidentally deployed.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the air bag inflator module, as follows:\n<ol type=\"A\">\n<li>Loosen the bolts or screws from the back of the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel, using the proper Torx\u00ae\u00a0driver, until the inflatable restraint module can be released from the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel.<\/li>\n<li>While pulling the module away from the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel, detach the SIR coil electrical connector and remove the retainer from the module.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the horn and ground lead from the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> column.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Scribe an alignment mark on the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel hub in line with the slash mark on the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> shaft.<\/li>\n<li>Loosen the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel nut, positioning it flush with the end of the shaft.<\/li>\n<li>Assemble <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel puller J 1859-03 or equivalent, on the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel hub with two\u00a0 <sup><span class=\"frac\">5<\/span> <\/sup> <span class=\"frac\">\u2044 <sub>16<\/sub><\/span>\u00a0\u201318&#215;4 in. bolts. (41 Nm).<\/li>\n<li>Install the air bag inflator module, as follows:\n<ol type=\"A\">\n<li>Connect the horn and ground lead to the column assembly.<\/li>\n<li>Attach the SIR coil assembly electrical connector and retainer to the module.<\/li>\n<li>Secure the SIR coil assembly electrical connector to the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel assembly by inserting the thick section of wire into the existing retainer.<\/li>\n<li>Position the air bag inflator module to the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel. Make sure the wiring is not exposed or trapped between the inflatable restraint module and the <span class=\"search_highlight\">steering<\/span> wheel assembly.<\/li>\n<li>Install the retaining bolts\/screws. Tighten to 25 inch lbs.
