This time when I went to take it off the transmission wants to come down with it. As far as I know there is not a top transmission mount? what is letting it come down?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>RESPONSE<\/p>\n<p>There is no top <a href=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/transmission-troubleshooting.html\">transmission<\/a> mounts, you are correct about that. There are two engine mounts and one transmission mount. It is normal for the transmission to want to lower. You should place something under it to support it when removing the skid plate.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-35703\" src=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/skid-plate-1997-jeep-wrangler.png\" alt=\"skid plate 1997 Jeep Wrangler\" width=\"640\" height=\"457\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/skid-plate-1997-jeep-wrangler.png 640w, https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/skid-plate-1997-jeep-wrangler-300x214.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>TRANSFER CASE <span class=\"search_highlight\">SKID<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">PLATE<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The transmission and transfer case crossmember is integrated with the transfer case <span class=\"search_highlight\">skid<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">plate<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h4>REMOVAL<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>WARNING: THE TRANSFER CASE AND TRANSMISSION ARE SUPPORTED BY THE TRANSFER CASE <span class=\"search_highlight\">SKID<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">PLATE<\/span>. BEFORE REMOVING THE TRANSFER CASE <span class=\"search_highlight\">SKID<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">PLATE<\/span>, ENSURE THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED. <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>Raise and support the vehicle.<\/li>\n<li>Place a support under the transmission.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the nuts attaching the transmission mount to the <span class=\"search_highlight\">skid<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">plate<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Remove the bolts attaching the <span class=\"search_highlight\">skid<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">plate<\/span> to the frame<\/li>\n<li>Separate the <span class=\"search_highlight\">skid<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">plate<\/span> from the vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>INSTALLATION<\/h4>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>Position the <span class=\"search_highlight\">skid<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">plate<\/span> on the vehicle.<\/li>\n<li>Install the bolts attaching the <span class=\"search_highlight\">skid<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">plate<\/span> to the frame. Tighten the bolts to 74 N\u00b7m ( 55 ft. lbs.) torque.<\/li>\n<li>Install the nuts attaching the transmission mount to the <span class=\"search_highlight\">skid<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">plate<\/span>.
