When you try to accelerate the engine\u00a0 bogs out even all the way to the floor. If you let off, it goes.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Fuel Related issue from the sounds of it. While someone presses the gas pedal and it starts to bog, spray some starting fluid in the air filter. If the engine revs up, you know for certain it is fuel related. Most likely the fuel pump is going out. Fuel pump failure is quite common on these trucks. Of course change your fuel filter at the same time. You may also want to insure the fuel pressure regulator isn&#8217;t leaking. Normal fuel pressure should be between 60-66 psi. Use a fuel pressure gauge to check this. When you press the accelerator the pressure should increase. If it drops, the regulator is bad. If the pressure is below normal the fuel pump is shot.<\/p>\n<p>Fuel Pressure Test Kit Gauge 0 &#8211; 100 psi<\/p>\n<p>If the <a href=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/checkenginelight.html\">check engine light<\/a> is on, pull the codes and post them below in the comments.<\/p>\n<h3>Fuel Pump Replacement 1998 Chevy Silverado when the Engine Bogs<\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"admonition_warning\"><strong>Warning!<\/strong><b>\u00a0<\/b>Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and\/or damage to the vehicle or its components. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-35592\" src=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/fuel-pump-1998-chevy-silverado.gif\" alt=\"Fuel Pump 1998 Chevy Silverado\" width=\"320\" height=\"296\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li type=\"1\">Remove the negative battery cable.<\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">Relieve the <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> system pressure.<em> Loosen the fuel filter lines<\/em><\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">Raise the vehicle.<\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">Remove the <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> tank.<\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">Remove the <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> sender unit assembly by turning the cam lock counterclockwise using tool J 39765 . Or a hammer and straight edge(Screwdriver)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/ABN-Fuel-Module-Spanner-Wrench\/dp\/B00QL6HXJI\/ref=as_li_ss_il?s=automotive&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1469805952&amp;sr=1-2&amp;keywords=fuel+pump+tool&amp;linkCode=li3&amp;tag=freea08-20&amp;linkId=4f204c20197bee15aa077944c125916e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow&quot; noopener noreferrer\"><\/a>Universal Fuel Pump Removal Tool<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li type=\"1\">Disconnect the <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">pump<\/span> from the sender assembly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li type=\"1\">\n<div align=\"left\">\n<table border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\">Pull the <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">pump<\/span> up into the attaching hose while pulling outward from the bottom support.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<table border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\">Do Not damage the rubber insulator or the strainer.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">Inspect the <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">pump<\/span> attaching hose for signs of deterioration.<\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">Check the rubber sound insulation at the bottom of the <span class=\"search_highlight\">pump<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">Inspect the strainer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here is a replacement <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3OHEJKz\"><strong>fuel pump.<\/strong><\/a> I have double checked to insure it will fit your vehicle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3OHEJKz\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-81132\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/fuel-pump-1998-chevy-silverado.jpg\" alt=\"fuel pump 1998 chevy silverado\" width=\"470\" height=\"511\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/fuel-pump-1998-chevy-silverado.jpg 470w, https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/fuel-pump-1998-chevy-silverado-276x300.jpg 276w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Installation Procedure<\/h3>\n<div id=\"section_comment_2\" class=\"section_comments\">\u00a0Connect the <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> <span class=\"search_highlight\">pump<\/span> assembly into the attaching hose.<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li type=\"1\">Install the <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> sender assembly into the <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> tank. Insert a new O-ring seal.<\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">Install the cam lock assembly. Turn the cam lock clockwise to lock it.<\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">Install the <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> tank.<\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">Add <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> removed from the tank.<\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">Check for <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> leaks.<\/li>\n<li type=\"1\">\n<ol>\n<li type=\"A\">Turn the ignition ON for 2 seconds.<\/li>\n<li type=\"A\">Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.<\/li>\n<li type=\"A\">Again, turn the ignition switch to the ON position.<\/li>\n<li type=\"A\">Check for <span class=\"search_highlight\">fuel<\/span> leaks.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a 5.7 vortex engine that cranks and idles fine.
