The new belt may be the wrong size and slipping.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-36534\" src=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/serpentine-belt-component-location-diagram.jpg\" alt=\"serpentine belt component location diagram 2005 Ford Freestyle\" width=\"569\" height=\"379\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/serpentine-belt-component-location-diagram.jpg 569w, https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/serpentine-belt-component-location-diagram-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Power steering pump pulley<\/li>\n<li>Serpentine Belt<\/li>\n<li>A\/C clutch pulley<\/li>\n<li>Crankshaft pulley<\/li>\n<li>Serpentine belt tensioner pulley<\/li>\n<li>Alternator pulley<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This vehicle is equipped with:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>a V-ribbed serpentine accessory drive <span class=\"search_highlight\">belt<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>an automatic drive <span class=\"search_highlight\">belt<\/span> tensioner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>New drive belts should be of the same type as originally installed.<\/p>\n<p>Drive <span class=\"search_highlight\">belt<\/span> chirp is a regularly occurring chirping noise that occurs due to:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>pulley misalignment.<\/li>\n<li>excessive pulley runout.<\/li>\n<li>worn out <span class=\"search_highlight\">belt<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>incorrect tension.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It can be a result of a damaged pulley or an incorrectly installed pulley that was not correctly aligned.<\/p>\n<p>To correct drive <span class=\"search_highlight\">belt<\/span> chirp:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>determine the area from where the noise comes.<\/li>\n<li>check each of the pulleys in that area with a straightedge to the crankshaft pulley for front accessory drive.<\/li>\n<li>look for the accessory pulley to be out of position in the fore\/aft direction or at an angle to the straightedge.<\/li>\n<li>inspect the drive <span class=\"search_highlight\">belt<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>inspect the <span class=\"search_highlight\">belt<\/span> tensioner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Drive <span class=\"search_highlight\">belt<\/span> squeal is an intermittent noise that occurs when the drive <span class=\"search_highlight\">belt<\/span> slips on a pulley during certain conditions such as:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>engine start-up.<\/li>\n<li>rapid engine acceleration.<\/li>\n<li>A\/C clutch engagement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We just replaced the serpentine belt on my 2005 Ford Freestyle and now the air conditioning won&#8217;t work and the belt is squeaky.
