Do not remove the specific intake manifold components unless component service is required.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-37474\" src=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/intake-manifold-1998-gmc-sonoma.gif\" alt=\"intake manifold\" width=\"320\" height=\"296\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Intake Manifold Removal<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid valve harness.<\/li>\n<li>Push the quick disconnect clip and hold in place.<\/li>\n<li>Pull outward on the harness elbow.<\/li>\n<li>Take off the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor wire connector (if equipped) from the engine wiring harness bracket.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the lower manifold bolts.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the manifold assembly.<\/li>\n<li>Discard the lower manifold gaskets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Important<\/em> <\/strong>The intake manifold may be removed as an assembly. Do not remove the specific\u00a0 manifold components unless component service is required.<br \/>\nDo not allow dirt or debris to enter the fuel system. Ensure that the ends of the fuel system are properly sealed.<br \/>\nDo not disassemble the Central Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI) unit, unless service is required.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Inspect the lower intake manifold for the following:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Cracks or damage<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Damage to the gasket sealing surfaces<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Damage to the threaded bolt holes<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Restricted <a href=\"\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/egr.html\">exhaust gas recirulation (EGR)<\/a> system passages<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Restricted cooling system passages<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Can the lower intake manifold gaskets be replaced without removing the upper intake from the lower?
