class=\"tableNoteItem\">Always refer to \u201cAirbag System\u201d before performingservice on the airbag modules as outlined in the Chassis Electrical Section.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/li>\n<li>Place alignment marks on the steering wheeland steering shaft.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the steering wheel nut, and then drawout the steering wheel from shaft using steeringpuller.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Remove the universal joint as follows:\n<ul>\n<li>Remove the steering wheel as outlined above.<\/li>\n<li>Place alignment marks on universal joint.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the universal joint bolt and remove theuniversal joint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Remove the instrument panel lower cover under.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the instrument panel lower cover upper.<\/li>\n<li>Remove all connectors from the steering column.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the two bolts under instrument panelsecuring the steering column.<\/li>\n<li>Pull out the steering shaft assembly from thehole on toe board.<br \/>\n<table class=\"notetable\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td installingbolts when removing steering shaft assemblyor when lowering it for servicing other parts.<\/li>\n<li>Do not loosen the tilt lever when the steeringcolumn is not secured to the vehicle.<br class=\"bodyText\"><b><u>To install:<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Install the grommet to the toe board.<\/li>\n<li>Insert the end of the steering shaft into the toeboard grommet.<\/li>\n<li>With the tilt lever secured, tighten the steeringshaft mounting bolts under instrument panel. Tighten bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)<\/li>\n<li>Connect all the connectors under the instrumentpanel.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the airbag system connector at the harnessspool.<br \/>\n<table class=\"notetable\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"noteclass_note\">NOTE<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p class=\"tableNoteItem\">Make sure to apply double lock.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/li>\n<li>Install the instrument panel lower cover with tiltlever held in the lowered position.<\/li>\n<li>Install the universal joint as follows:\n<ul>\n<li>Align the cutout portion at serrated section of thecolumn shaft and yoke, then install the universaljoint into column shaft.<\/li>\n<li>Install the universal joint to the serrations ofgearbox assembly by matching alignment marks.<\/li>\n<li>Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm)<br \/>\n<table class=\"notetable\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"noteclass_caution\">CAUTION<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p class=\"tableNoteItem\">Excessively large tightening torque of universaljoint bolts may lead to heavy steering wheeloperation.
