What happens is the cables come apart internally on the regulator. Replacing it is the best option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe style=\"width:120px;height:240px;\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"\/\/ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&#038;OneJS=1&#038;Operation=GetAdHtml&#038;MarketPlace=US&#038;source=ss&#038;ref=as_ss_li_til&#038;ad_type=product_link&#038;tracking_id=freea08-20&#038;language=en_US&#038;marketplace=amazon&#038;region=US&#038;placement=B07VGB3TSH&#038;asins=B07VGB3TSH&#038;linkId=869096fdd581b63404b475f8c66a0531&#038;show_border=true&#038;link_opens_in_new_window=true\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-window-regulator-overhaul\">WINDOW REGULATOR, OVERHAUL<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Remove door trim panel.<\/li><li>Remove window regulator.<\/li><li>Inspect all bushings and gears, if equipped, for wear or damage. If wear or damage is present, replace with new.<\/li><li>Reverse procedure to install. Ensure proper operation after installation.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Front Door Window Regulator<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Left side shown. Right side similar.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Removing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25baRemove the front door trim panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25baDisconnect the wire harness connector (4) from the window regulator motor (1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2009-vw-routon-window-motor-diagram.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"370\" height=\"296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2009-vw-routon-window-motor-diagram.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-78773\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25baRemove the 3 screws (3) that secure the window regulator motor to the carrier plate (2) and remove the motor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25baIf servicing the window regulator, remove the carrier plate (2) and place it on a workbench.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2009-vw-routon-window-regulator-diagram.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"370\" height=\"296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2009-vw-routon-window-regulator-diagram.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-78775\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25baRemove the 4 screws (3 and 4) that secure the window regulator rails (1) to the carrier plate and remove the window regulator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Installing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25baIf servicing the window regulator, position the window regulator rails (1) to the carrier plate (2) and install the 4 screws (3 and 4). Tighten the screws to 9 Nm (80 in lbs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2009-vw-routon-window-regulator-diagram-1.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"370\" height=\"296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2009-vw-routon-window-regulator-diagram-1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-78776\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25baInstall the carrier plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25baInstall the window regulator motor (1) onto the carrier plate (2). If necessary, rotate the motor slightly to align the splines on the motor with the window regulator linkage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2009-vw-routon-window-motor-diagram-1.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"370\" height=\"296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freeautomechanic.com\/mechanic\/forum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2009-vw-routon-window-motor-diagram-1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-78774\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25baInstall the three screws (3) that secure the window regulator motor to the carrier plate.
