it died on me i try to start it engine turns fine head and rear lites do not work now and it will not start

You may want to start by checking the fuses and electrical connections at the battery. Usually the lights would still illuminate even if the engine would not start. The only common between the lights and power to the engine is the battery. We know the battery is good or the engine would not turn over.
