How to Replace Front Sway Bar Links 1999-07 Chevy Silverado

To avoid stabilizer shaft damage due to loss of clamp load, the threads of the link bolt must protrude 2-4 threads above the link nut after the specified torque is achieved.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the stabilizer shaft nut (1) from the link bolt, Fig. 1.
  3. Remove the stabilizer shaft link bolt (3), Fig. 1.
  4. Remove the stabilizer shaft link insulators and spacers (2), Fig. 1.
  5. Inspect all of the components for wear and damage.
  6. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
    a. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    b. Apply threadlocker GM part No. 12345382, or BLUE LOCTITE® part No. 242, or equivalents on the threads of the bolts.
    c. Torque the nut to 89 inch lbs. Continue to tighten the nut until 2-4 threads protrude above the nut.
