TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS)

SENSOR ACTIVATION

The tire pressure sensors will go into a “sleep mode” when a vehicle is stationary to conserve battery power. sensors do not transmit information while in sleep mode. It will be required, to wake them up so they will transmit latest tire pressure information.
The tire pressure data in BCM can be cleared when module performs a reset. When this occurs air pressure DIDs will be reset to factory default of 1033 kPa (149.96 psi) and cluster will display dashes.

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position.
  2. Position special tool against Left Front (LF) tire sidewall at tire valve stem.
  3. Special tool should provide feedback in form of a flashing green light and a beep sound for each successful response from a tire pressure sensor. This feedback may not always be present, do not rely on it as a confirmation that module heard a particular sensor.
  4. If a sensor does not respond to special tool move vehicle to rotate wheels at least one-fourth of a turn and attempt to activate same sensor again. If sensor still does not respond, attempt to activate same sensor again using customer activation tool (if available). If sensor still fails to train, attempt to train sensor with vehicle doors open.
  5. Press test button on special tool to activate sensor. Activate sensor at least two times.

SENSOR LOCATION CALIBRATION

Before performing TPMS sensor location calibration, have vehicle parked at least two meter away from any other vehicle equipped with TPMS to avoid activating other TPMS sensors.
Do not wait more than 2 minutes between training each sensor or BCM will time out and entire procedure must be repeated and already trained TPMS sensors have to be activated again.
TPMS sensor identifiers are stored as long no new TPMS sensor identifiers have been trained by either performing this procedure or performing TPMS customer reset.

  1. With ignition OFF, press and release brake pedal.
  2. With start/stop switch, position ignition from OFF to RUN three times, ending in RUN position.
  3. Press and release brake pedal.
  4. Position ignition to OFF position.
  5. With start/stop switch, position ignition from OFF to RUN three times, ending in RUN position.
  6. Horn will sound once and TPMS indicator will flash if training mode has been entered successfully. If equipped, message center will display TRAIN Left Front (LF) TIRE.
  7. It may take up to six seconds to activate a tire pressure sensor. During this time, special tool must remain in place at valve stem.
  8. Place special tool on Left Front (LF) tire sidewall at valve stem. Press and release test button on special tool. Horn will sound briefly to indicate that tire pressure sensor has been recognized by BCM.
  9. Within two minutes of horn sounding, place special tool on Right Front (RF) tire sidewall at valve stem and press and release test button to train Right Front (RF) tire pressure sensor.
  10. Repeat Step seven for Right Rear (RR) and Left Rear (LR) tires. Procedure is completed after last tire has been trained. When training procedure is complete, message center (if equipped) will display TIRE TRAINING COMPLETE. For vehicles not equipped with a message center, successful completion of training procedure will be verified by positioning ignition to OFF without horn sounding. If horn sounds twice when ignition is positioned to OFF, training procedure was not successful.
  11. With scan tool, locate updated TPMS sensor identifiers trained to BCM and document them on applicable warranty claim.
  12. This step is required to clear DTC B1182:55, cause BCM to exit manufacturing mode and to make sure there are no other concerns with a newly programmed BCM.
  13. If sensors are being trained due to installation of a new BCM, clear any DTC and carry out BCM On-Demand Self Test.
