Seeing as how the vehicle has a floor mounted gear shifter this is a strange one. The shifter does operate by using cables that run under the floor and into the engine compartment. If it has been worked on recently, I would start there and then examine the shifter cables under the hood while someone else is moving the shifter to see if anything is rubbing that it shouldn’t be. Removal of the air cleaner box and disconnecting the MAF – Sensor may be required to give a clear view.
