can engine be damaged if spark plugs need replacing? can damaged spark plugs cause idling and rough ride?

If the check engine light is flashing, do not drive it.
Generally a high idle is an indication of a vacuum leak.
Bad spark plugs are not going to hurt the engine. It will just make it run rough and cause poor fuel mileage. However the excessive unburnt fuel being shoved through the catalytic converter would damage the catalytic converter in a matter of weeks. So I would get them replaced as soon as you are able.
