if the battery fails the load test, i.e. its ability to hold a sustainable amount of current to start the vehicle, then it will be too much of a draw on the charging system and could cause alternator failure, so it would definitely be a good choice to test the battery. Other than that i have seen instrument clusters fail on these models. I would advise the tech to use the Ford IDS scantool to perform a selftest on the instrument cluster ,as well as load test the power and ground feeds to the cluster to ensure it is receiving its proper power feeds, if that checks good perform the selftest with the IDS and possibly replace the cluster if necessary
