Taking the thermostat out will cause a car to over heat. Since you already have it out why not test the thermostat. Quick test by placing the thermostat in a cup of Hot water and watch to see if it opens. then remove with pliers, so you don’t get burned, and watch for it to close when it cools down. Then put it back in the engine.
