I have white smoke coming from under my hood. Appears to be coming from engine.

  1. White smoke is an indication of coolant/anti-freeze burning. It is sometimes accomponied by a somewhat sweet smell. Check and top off your coolant level. If it is quite low, check for leaks. Sometimes checking for a leak requires the entire cooling system to be pressure tested. This requires a Pressure tester but can be performed by just about any level mechanic. Just hook up the tool and pump it up to the pressure of the cap on the overflow tank and look for where the coolant is coming from. Shops may charge as much as $100 to perform this test. Once you locate the leak the battle is have over. Post below once you have located the leak. This is the kind of tester I use.
