Tensioner pulley is ticking 1993 Gmc Suburban

Chevy Suburban

Tensioner pulley is ticking\clicking. Is it faulty, installed improperly? Or is it common on these older vortec 5700’s?

Sounds like the bearings are going out. Being as old as it is I am sure it has been changed a few times already. And usually the replacement parts do not last as long. So, It probably needs to be replaced again. A good time to put a new belt on it too if it needs one.

SERPENTINE DRIVE BELT, REPLACE

  1. Rotate tensioner counterclockwise, using a 1/2 inch breaker bar with a socket placed on tensioner pulley axis bolt.
  2. Remove belt from pulleys.
  3. Clean pulleys and inspect for any bent or damaged pulleys.
  4. Reverse procedure to install.
