problems with my 91 oldsmoblie calais

my calais drives fine then suddenly lose acceleration no matter how much gas i give it… i let off the gas it idles fine but sputters as soon as i give it gas again….

    First thing you should do is check for engine codes which can be done by yourself for free. Here is how: http://www.freeautomechanic.com/diagnostictroblecodes5.html

    If there are no codes present, then you have a fuel pump going out or a clogged catalytic converter. To test the fuel pump, you will need a fuel pressure gauge or have your local shop do it for you.

    To test for a clogged converter, you will need a back pressure gauge or have your local shop do it for you.
