Last week whenever i went to start my car it wouldn’t turn over on the 1st attempt. I would then try a 2nd time and it would fire right up. today i went to start it and again it wouldn’t turn over and it kind of had a winding down sound. then nothing happens now when i turn the key. the electrical things come on so i didn’t think it was the battery being flat. any ideas?

Could still be the battery as the dash lights and such do not require as much juice as the starter motor does. So first make certain the battery is fully charged.
Then if it is charged and still does nothing, it is most likely the starter. Or loose battery connections.
If it just whines then it is most likely the starter solenoid, replacing the entire starter should take care of it.
