Dealer replaced timing belt before i purchased the car. After 17000 miles needed another one. Took to new garage and the mechanic said that the first machanic used too much RTV sealant and it blocked 3/4 of main oil passage and that is why it did not last. Before replacing 2nd one I had to get catalytic converter and new secondary air pump. Do you agree that the sealant can cause these problems?

  1. There would be NO RTV Sealant required to replace the timing belt on the 2.0L Engine. The timing belt doesn’t come in contact with oil, so not sure what they were trying to describe to you.

Do you agree that the sealant can cause these(catalytic converter, air pump, timing belt) problems? NO, I Do Not.
