You will need to have the check engine light codes pulled with a Scan Tool. No sense in guessing. Your local auto parts store will do this for free. Free is good! Post the codes below.
Assuming the engine is running normal.
If the check engine light is on and and not flashing, it is an emissions related issue and can be driven without worry.
If the check engine light is flashing, DO NOT DRIVE IT. Something bad is wrong and you can cause damage if driven.
