hard to start and shows 4551-8021-12 which is CMP signal inactive, but at the same time it is showing engine speed, ICP and fuel pressure, after a while it will start for a couple of seconds then die, it does this 3 or 4 times then starts up and runs fine.

Sounds like the CMP – Camshaft position sensor is failing or has bad connection.
