I have a 97 jeep wrangler that was built in November so I think the motor is a 98. ok the problem is after about 20 min of driving it acts like its chocking out and dies. after a few minuets it will start but just idle. when it is cooled off completely like the next day it will run for 20 min. or so and do it all over again. I have replaced the sensor under the distributor cap and the crankshaft sensor but it still dose it.
I understand your thinking in replacing the sensors around the distributor. On other vehicles this would sound like an ignition control module issue or sensor leading to it however the jeep engine uses the PCM for this and is not a common failure part. Stepping back and looking at it again, after the engine has a chance to warm is when the problem occurs. The engine uses preset parameters until it is warm and then rely on sensor input to function. I believe there is an issue with one of these sensors. Fortunately there is an On-board Diagnostic System that may be able to help point the way. A scan tool is required to pull check engine light and or any stored codes in the computer. Most all auto parts stores will do this for free. Post the codes below once you have them and we can direct you further.
