Your cooling system has a leak in it and is low on coolant. You may keep the cooling system full of coolant to achieve heat but recommend repairing the leak asap.
How to locate a coolant system leak:
Top off cooling system.
Use a cooling system pressure tester and pressurize the cooling system and inspect for leak.
