Can I drive my car to the mechanic 30 miles away (or 10 for the bad one) if panel shows overheating but motor seems fine?
Panel show overheating
Heater doesn’t work even at full blast
Coolant tank is full
Radiators seem to set in
I don’t know why the panel shows overheating.
Sometimes car misfires and I have to stop and start it again. Now more often with this overheating. I’m in the middle of nowhere and need to get to repair place. What could it be and can I drive my car, or should I call a handy neighbor to help if its just a little thing??

I would not recommend driving the vehicle if it is overheating. There may be a serious issue that can cause irreversible internal damage. Having the vehicle towed would be the best option.

It could be as simple as the radiator fan not working or stuck thermostat. But it may also be as worse as a blown head gasket.

Trying to get power to the Rear View Mirror, so auto dim will work. Have TWO mirrors but neither one works. Compass and out side temp does. Please assist in finding a fuse or relay that is not listed or shown.

Happy to assist you. Lets look at the wiring diagram of the auto-dimming interior mirror. We find three fuses and two relays in the works.

  1. F27 and F35 10 amp fuses
  2. F41 a 15 amp fuse
  3. Reversing lamps relay
  4. Accessory delay relay

Ford Escape

Just had #4 fuel injector and spark plugs replaced. Added Gumout fuel injector cleaner to the next tank of gas as per directions. Time for a new tank of gas. Can I add another Gumout?

Yes, Shouldn’t need to add another but won’t hurt anything either. If you are using the Expert Series Gumout Fuel System Cleaner it is even advertised:

  • Best for maximized performance and fuel economy in one fill-up
  • Cleans direct and indirect fuel injectors, intake valves and ports, piston tops, cylinder heads, combustion chamber
  • Improves performance and maximizes gas mileage
  • Prevents future carbon buildup

2008 Ford Escape

08 escape when warm outside car shifts good but in winter when i first takeoff car hesitates for about 5 seconds before going into gear then is fine

First thing to check would be the transmission fluid level. Also check for any signs of a transmission fluid leak. Next checking for dirty fluid and finally checking and or replacing the solenoids in the transmissions valve body.

No spark

No spark. My camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor are good. I test no power at coil packs. I checked fuses and  not sure how to proceed from here.

According to the chart it would appear the next step would be to look at the ignition system wiring, voltage regulator.

The PCM controls sends the voltage to the ignition coils. Maybe the signal wires from the sensors or the wires coming from the PCM or the PCM itself.

Blows hot air then back to cold

Turn on air conditioning blows hard cold air and after a few minutes blows hot air then back to cold after awhile.

This may be from the air conditioning system being low on Freon. You can listen for the compressor to cycle on and off. When the Freon gets lower than normal the compressor tends to cycle on and off more frequent. If this is the case, a top off may be in order.

2001 Ford EscapeMy dashboard has this foggy/moisture look going on. I believe it is on the inside as a wipe of a finger does nothing. How can I clean/fix this? Or is this something with my defroster seeping in? FYI, car is still under warranty if it is some kind of leak. Thanks in advance!

If the car is under warranty you may be best served by contacting them and letting them know of the situation. They should let you know if this is something that is going to be covered under warranty. I would not touch it until you contact them.  If they decide not to cover it then you will need to dig into it deeper. Moisture on the inside is not very common. Disassembly may be required.

Foggy look

Generally the only thing that will create a foggy look is an evaporator core leaking. And this will create a foggy look on the inside of the windshield.

2004 Ford EscapeLoss of power, struggles to reach 25 mph. Trouble codes: p1120, po113, po403, po511. I replaced TPS sensor. Checked for vacuum leaks and seem to hear vacuum leak at egr valve. What to do?Also, when idling,is there supposed to be constant vacuum to the egr valve?

Ford Code P1120 – Throttle Position Sensor Out of Range

The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) responds to the accelerator pedal movement. The TPS is a rotary potentiometer sensor that provides a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) that is linearly proportional to the throttle plate/shaft position. As the TPS is rotated by the throttle shaft, the following operating conditions are determined by the PCM:

  • Closed throttle (includes idle or deceleration)
  • Part throttle (includes cruise or moderate acceleration)
  • Wide open throttle (includes maximum acceleration or de-choke on crank)
  • Throttle angle rate

Ford Code P1120 Possible causes

  • Faulty throttle position sensor
  • Throttle position sensor harness is open or shorted
  • TPS circuit poor electrical connection
  • TPS not properly adjusted
