my car is shaking and keeps cutting off and seems to accelerate on it own sending the RPM GUAGE all over the place. what could it be?
You may have more than one issue here.
First off, if your check engine light is on, please have the codes checked and post them back here in the comments below and we can address them.
You stated the RPM gauge is all over the place… is the engine revving up and down or just a higher rev altogether? This could be from a possible vacuum leak. This would make it seem to want to accelerate on its own as well.
This could also cause some of the shaking and cutting off you mentioned. There could also be an engine misfire issue or a sensor issue that would be indicated from the check engine light codes.
