2006 fl50 5.4l to 4.6 l

I am doing an engine swap on this vehicle and i need some advice on how to do the electrical. I have the engine and new transmission in.. and have to hook up the transfer case… and basically everything thing else. i was planning on switching over the whole wiring harness for the transmission and engine.. and was wondering if i can hook it up to the ecm of the 5.4. it looks identical. or should i switch the ecm as well. and if i do that will it be compatible? how should i go about doing this?

  1. If all you are doing is swapping out the long block and not using any of the electrical components or sensors from the other engine you shouldn’t need to change anything.

Since you are planning on swapping over the entire wiring harness you shouldn’t have any issues at all with using any of the components or sensors. Using the ECM should be fine if the P/N(part number) is the same. If you have both ECM’s then I would use the one that follows the engine as you know the software is updated for the engine it was attached to. Besides, what are a few more bolts after gutting the wiring?
