My drivers side wheel bearing assembly needed replacing, now that’s done we cant keep transmission fluid in it. The mechanic filed the cv joint splines before putting it back in. What happened?

  1. Replacing the hub bearing shouldn’t have anything to do with any kind of leak, including a transmission leak. The axle does not get removed during this repair procedure. The bearing is removed from the outer portion of the axle shaft. Cleaning up the splines to allow the NEW bearing to slide on is a common practice and would not cause a leak of any kind.

If your transmission is leaking fluid, work on finding where the leak is coming from exactly. Then we can guide you on the proper repair.
