2004 Cadillac CTSI have oil where the spark plugs go what should I do?

RESPONSE

I am going to assume you have the 3.2L or 3.6L engine. Have the valve cover gaskets and o-rings replaced. Not a huge deal if you want to wait awhile before repairing it. Just make sure to keep the engine oil level topped off.

Valve CoverIf this is the 5.7L engine there are no o-rings to replace, just the valve cover gaskets.

 •  Do not remove the oil fill tube from the cover unless service is required.
   •  If the oil fill tube has been removed from the cover, install a NEW tube during assembly.

2001 Cadillac DevilleCar overheats not sure why interior floor carpets damp maybe heater core Cadillac. It is a 2001 Cadillac Deville I checked oil, no water. I was wondering if heater core leak could cause overheating? Need Help Please.

RESPONSE

Yes, a leak anywhere in the cooling system will cause an overheating issue. Most likely reason for a damp floor would be the heater core leaking. Check your coolant level and if it is low, top it off and perform a pressure test on the system.

I use a coolant system pressure tester kit. This will put an adequate amount of pressure on the cooling system and allow you to locate any leak in the system.

  2. Remove the heater core retaining straps.
  3. Remove the heater core.
  4. Remove the heater core case seals.

Installation Procedure

Caution! Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  • Install the heater core.
  • Install the heater core retaining straps.
  • Install the new heater core case seals.
  • Install the heater core retaining fasteners (1).

Cadillac Blower MotorNo a/c or heat – Cadillac Blower Motor

RESPONSE

The most common reason would be the Cadillac blower motor has failed or power is unable to reach the blower motor from a failed blower motor resistor. Check for battery positive and negative at the blower motor electrical plug(2).

2003 Cadillac Escalade
When to get tune up on my 2003 Cadillac Escalade with a 5.3L engine. I have had this car for a while now. It seems to run OK but my mechanic seems to think I should get a tune up. It has 213,000 miles on it.
_______________________________________________
RESPONSE
According tot he manufacturers maintenance schedule the engine tune up(spark plugs) should be performed at 100,000 miles. Check any maintenance repair records you might have to see when the last time it was done. No reason to spend time and money if you don’t need to.

Maintenance Schedule Highlights:

  • The engines air and fuel filter should be replaced every 30,000 miles.
  • Transmission fluid replaced every 50,000 miles.
  • Transmission fluid and filter along with the engine spark plugs every 100,000 miles.

How often do I need an engine tune up?

Car and truck engines today are equipped from the factory with double platinum spark plugs. These specific double platinum spark plugs will last up to 100,000 miles or longer. Much different from years past when a set of spark plugs were needed almost yearly.

Engine Tune up

Engine tune up rule of thumb

  • Carburetor engine – tune up yearly
  • OBD I Throttle Body Fuel injection –  every two years
  • OBD II (1996 – 2004) Fuel Injection – every 80-100,000 miles
  • CAN 2005 – present Fuel Injection – every 100,000 miles

Transmission tune up rule of thumb

  • Pre-synthetic transmission fluid (Dextron/Mercon) – every 30,000 miles
  • Synthetic transmission fluid – every 80,000 miles
  • Hasn’t been changed and has over 120,000 miles – DO NOT CHANGE FLUID, it will slip with in the first 200 miles.

My car has been making a terrible grinding sound coming from the front driver wheel. I thought it was the brakes but someone removed the wheel for me and it looks like the brake pad is not completely worn down. A little while ago I was driving down my street and the whole wheel locked up as if the E brake was on but even more so. What could the problem be? Also recently the car was saying Service Stability System. Any info/advice is greatly appreciated. Someone told me it may be the tie rod or possibly the caliper has locked up.

RESPONSE

Sounds like the brake caliper has locked up. This is common enough and easy enough to repair. As long as the other side brake pads look fine you can just repair the one side. The purchase of a “loaded caliper” makes it quick. The caliper comes with the brake pads already installed. If money is no object, you may want to go ahead and replace both front brake rotors and pads. Both calipers would not be necessary.

1996 Cadillac Deville
We are working on a 96 Deville. The guy putting the a/c compressor didn’t tell us he had to take the oil filter off to get the compressor on it. We came in the next morning and started it to back it out. I seen the oil puddle and shut it off. Now it turns over’ but we can’t get it to start. We changed the key and tumbler we got from the dealer and the security light is not flashing.
